Ruwenzori Range is located on the border between the Republic of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the central part of Africa.
The mountain range is about 100km long and 50km wide along the Great Rift Valley, and there are a number of mountains around 5,000m height.
Mountain peaks at high altitude are covered with glaciers, and deep valleys are formed by ice erosion on the mountainside.
The first exploration of the range was led by the expedition of H.Stanley in 1889, and the first ascent to the highest peak was made by the Italian mountaineer, L. Amedeo in 1906.
Lake Albert, which is one of the water sources of the Nile River, is located to the northeast of this range, and Lake Edward partly visible in the image is to the southwest of this range.
