Puyehue volcano (elevation 2,240 m) of the Andes mountains in Southern Chile, located approximately 900 km south of Santiago, erupted for the first time in half a century on June 4, 2011.
Massive ash clouds from the erupting volcano spread across the South Pacific toward Australia, causing cancellation of many flights. |
