Sync. Observation at Jogashima Island on April 22, 2021
Japan Space Systems had a synchronous observation among Michibiki, Sentinel-2, a spectral meter and UAV at Jogashima Island on April 22, 2021. The targets were a plastic sheet (10 m X 10 m size), another sheet (5.4 m X 5.4) and seaweeds at the coastal area. Japan Space Systems had already demonstrated to observe 10 m X 10 m size of the plastic sheet by Sentinel-2 on January 22, 2021. This time, they challenged to observe smaller size of the plastic sheet, and they did!
Michibiki, Quasi-Zenith Satellite System, is a satellite constellation of Japanese global navigation satellite system. They collect positions in 3 cm accuracy. QZSS Division of Japan Space Systems supported the sync observation to collect exact coordinates of plastic sheets, a basement of UAV and other observation targets such as seaweeds and plastic waste on the coastal area.
